The goats get phone calls and letters from cancer patients with some regularity. They reach out to thank them and share how the Fresh Goat’s Milk products have helped.
Chemotherapy and radiation often cause changes to the skin, triggering dryness, peeling and sensitivity. Canus' fresh goat's milk products alleviate the dryness and cracking, making cancer patients more comfortable as they forge ahead in their courageous battle. Because the protein in goat’s milk is more readily absorbed, these survivors found Canus soaps and lotions gave them relief, like no other product. Click here to read a few testimonials.
For a long time now, cancer causes have been near and dear to our hearts. We’ve made that support official and each year expand our outreach as we grow Canus for a Cure – our ongoing campaign to put the soothing relief of fresh Goat’s Milk products in the hands of as many cancer patients as possible. As you will see in our logo of varied colored ribbons, the Canus Family has been touched in some way by a number of specific cancers. The PINK ribbon represents our support for finding a cure against breast cancer, GREEN for Kidney, LIGHT BLUE for Prostate, GOLD for Childhood Cancer and LAVENDER the universal color representing Cancer Awareness.
Race for the Cure: Part of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Race for the Cure events are the largest series of 5K runs/walks in the world, with over 100 events annually. Thousands of runners in more than 20 races nationwide each year discover our products in their goodie bags. We’ll be ‘part of the promise’ at upcoming races in Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Iowa, Maine, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.

ACS Hope Lodges: Organized by the American Cancer Society, these facilities provide free lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers, while undergoing treatment. Canus is providing soaps and lotions to the three Hope Lodges in the New England area, and we hope to extend this program on a more national level soon. Every year the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge in Boston alone provides up to 14,600 comfy nights, along with free counseling and support.
Oncology Departments at Hospitals: Canus is working directly with oncology units to distribute lotion and body butter samples to patients undergoing care. We’re already present in the following New England hospitals: Maine Medical Center (Scarborough, ME), Rutland Regional Medical Center (Rutland, VT), Fletcher Allen Healthcare (Burlington, VT), The National Life Cancer Treatment Center (Berlin, VT) and Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center (Bennington, VT).
Canus also provides support to a select group of other organizations raising money for cancer-related resources and care like the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the Ellie Fund. - return to top
Heifer International is without a doubt the goats’ favorite charity. No wonder! The organization donates farm animals to needy families in Third World countries–thereby providing them with their own means of self-sustenance.
Naturally, we like to sponsor gifts of goats. Just one doe provides a daily gallon of nutritious, vitamin and mineral-rich milk for hungry bellies. What the families don’t consume, they can turn into cheese or butter and sell.
Families that receive animals are required to share the goodness and give any offspring to another needy family. For more information, visit www.heifer.org. - return to top
Inspired by Spain’s famous "Running of the Bulls," Brattleboro’s annual Strolling of the Heifers Parade features scores of heifers ambling up the town’s historic Main Street, along with many, many farmers, future farmers, cows, bulls, horses, goats, poultry, floats, tractors, bands, clowns, and much more. Strolling of the Heifers seeks to slow down and even reverse the decline of New England farming by educating the public about the importance of sustainable local agriculture. They work to preserve the livelihoods of farming families and the health of consumers who depend on local farm products and they help maintain the patronage of tourists who are drawn to our agricultural environment. When New England loses one of its family farms, it loses a piece of its unique identity, agrarian landscape, proud culture and heritage. We support Strolling of the Heifers as a way of supporting those hard-working farming families. Look for Canus at the Annual Strolling of the Heifers the first weekend in June.
